Vero Beach’s OcuCue LLC Announces Management Team and New Blog

VERO BEACH, FL., June 4, 2010 â One of Floridaâs newest technical start-ups, the visual analytic network monitoring solution company OcuCue LLC, recently named its leadership team and launched a blog, announced Stuart C. Woodward, president of OcuCue.

Russ Grant was named Director of Technology for OcuCue. With over 20 yearsâ experience in the IT industry, Grant knows the frustrations that IP network engineers face when they spend too much time drilling and troubleshooting. Prior to OcuCue, Grant was account manager with SITA, the worldâs leading service provider of IT business solutions and communication services to the air transport industry. Earlier he managed American Airlinesâ second largest network operations center. He holds an Associateâs Degree in Electronic Engineering from ITT Technical Institute, is a Cisco Certified Network Associate, a certified Novel Engineer and a Microsoft certified Systems Engineer.
Barbara Cassidy has been named Director of Sales for OcuCue. Before joining OcuCue, Cassidy worked in various sales and consulting roles with SouthStar Development Partners in Vero Beach, and Votar Corporation, The Yankee Group, Telsource Corporation and AT&T in Virginia and Maryland. She holds a MBA from George Washington University, a BS in Commerce from the University of Virginia, and is a CMSP (Certified Managed Services Professional).
Samuel Schultz, an Orlando native, is a Sales Engineer at OcuCue. He spent four years as an IT Technician with Sea World of Florida in Orlando and is a CMSP. Schultz has worked in various customer service roles with Service Master and Elavon in Knoxville.
Erik Penfield, CSMP, held technical management positions with Green Atom, Data Intensity and Oracle before joining OcuCue as an Account Manager. Prior to building his technical expertise, Penfield worked as a chemist at St. Louis Testing Labs, Ethyl Corporation, Chemir and Quanterra. He holds a bachelorâs degree in Chemistry and German Studies from Principia College, along with a PMP certification from the Project Management Institute.
Sean Coakley has joined OcuCue to oversee Global Business Development after working four years with Spectorsoft in Vero Beach in International Business and Channel Development. Coakleyâs background also includes positions with MicroWarehouse/CDW and Veritas Credit Corporation in Connecticut. Coakley holds a BS from Southern Connecticut State University.

CHILDRENâS HOME SOCIETY TO OFFER STUDENTS FREE SUMMER MATH AND READING TUTORING PROGRAM

VERO BEACH, FL., May 28, 2010 â Childrenâs Home Society will once again offer Indian River County students complimentary tutoring this summer through their reading and math enrichment program, June 21 through July 28.
CHSâ Summer Reading and Mathematics Enrichment Program is a six-week course conducted Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday each week from June 21 through July 28, from 9am to 11am or 12:15pm to 2:15pm at the Trinity Episcopal Church, located at 2365 Pine Avenue in Vero Beach. The program, underwritten through Quail Valley Charities and Sun Trust Bank, is open to 40 students between the ages of 11 and 17 who reside in Indian River County. Lunch is served daily, and accompanied by motivational speakers and career counselors. The teacher-to-student ratio is 1:2.5.

Senior Resource Association (SRA) will begin offering new programs and services to the public at the new Schumann Hall Senior Center, beginning June 7, 2010. Senior programs never ceased during construction of Schumann Hall, as most programs were relocated to Leisure Square Fitness Center and St. Francis Manor, but the new facility will allow for expanded programming. Schumann Hall is located at 686 14th Street in Vero Beach.
âThe newly-remodeled Schumann Hall allows us to offer new programs and services to Indian River County seniors,â says Karen Deigl, SRA President and CEO. âWe have focused our new programming around social, recreational, health and wellness, and arts and cultural offerings for our seniors.â
During the week of June 7-11, all new and ongoing classes and programs at Schumann Hall will be offered free to the public. New programs will be introduced during the reopening celebration week including Wii tournaments, group piano lessons, ballroom dance classes, Qigong, and yoga. Door prizes will be given away daily throughout the week. Special events for the week include a free pancake breakfast at 9am on June 9 sponsored by The Isles of Vero, Qigong instruction, and a free Hawaiian luau party at 2:30pm on June 11. Dance music will be provided by The Senior Center Band and prizes will be awarded for the best outfit and best hula hooper. The new Interactive Resource Center at Schumann Hall, sponsored by the Minotty Family Foundation, enables SRA to offer expanded programs in the future including computer instruction. Other programs planned for the future include brain fitness; matter of balance classes; drawing classes; and health and wellness presentations; as well as an onsite SHINE representative to help with Medicare issues.

Senior Resource Association 5K Freedom Run/Fun Walk Scheduled for Memorial Day This Year

VERO BEACH, FL., May 13, 2010 â Put on your running (or walking) shoes before you head to your Memorial Day BBQ this year â Senior Resource Association is hosting their Annual 5k Freedom Run/ Fun Walk at Riverside Park on Monday, May 31, Memorial Day.
âAll proceeds from our annual 5K race support the Senior Resource Association programs and services,â says Karen Diegl, SRA President and CEO. âWe had over 300 runners and walkers of all ages come out last year and show their support.â
This yearâs race again takes place at Riverside Park in Vero Beach. The entry fee is $20 in advance and $25 the day of the event. Registration forms are available at Runnerâs Depot at 436 21st Street from 10am to 5pm, Friday, May 28 and Saturday May 29, or online at www.runnersdepotvb.com. The first 150 participants to register will receive a t-shirt and race bag. Refreshments and snacks will be available for runners and walkers immediately after the race. There will also be live entertainment. Awards will be presented for top runners in each of the eight age groups (14 & under, 14-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70 & over.) The top three walkers overall will also be recognized.
In special honor of the race being held on Memorial Day, Senior Resource Association is recognizing 18 members of our US troops stationed in the Gulf as they race from their locations and submit their times post-race for recognition at SRAâs 5K Freedom Run/ Fun Walk. The race at Riverside Park will also serve as a drop site for care packages that will be sent to US troops. SRA is inviting the community to bring donations of items such as drink mixes, candy, gum, beef jerky, travel-size toiletries, books, playing cards, crossword puzzles, Soduku, socks, t-shirts, travel-size sunscreen and lip balm to include in the packages sent to the soldiers.
The Memorial Day race is supported by Gold sponsor Amerigas and Silver sponsors Champion Home Health, Embroid Me, HealthSouth, HomeInstead Senior Care, and WellCare of Florida. Dr. David R. VERO BEACH, FL., â April 5, 2010 âChildren’s Home Society of Florida (CHS) Treasure Coast Division has named Jan Swink Huffert as Executive Director beginning April 26, 2010, announced Shelley Katz, Vice President of Operations for the Florida organization.
âWe are pleased to have someone of Janâs caliber take the reins of the Treasure Coast Division,â said Katz. âHer nonprofit management and governance experience, along with her expertise in child welfare, domestic violence and substance abuse make Jan an excellent addition to our dedicated team.â
Huffert joins CHS from the Martin County Board of County Commissioners where she was the Intergovernmental & Community Relations Administrator. There she was involved in intergovernmental relations, interdepartmental grant funding, affordable housing, health and human services, veteransâ services, and indigent medical care, among other responsibilities. Huffert recently led the team responsible for over $100 million in grant and economic stimulus funding for Martin County.
âI am thrilled to become part of the CHS team. Their work on the Treasure Coast, especially the capital campaign and building of the new Youth Transition Center, is respected throughout the state,â said Huffert. âI am proud to align myself with these dedicated professionals and devoted volunteers who always put children first.â
Prior to Huffertâs three years with Martin County, she spent 11 years with Hibiscus Childrenâs Center in the roles of chief executive officer, chief operating officer and program director. Her background also includes working for the Martin County Healthy Start Coalition, Stuartâs SafeSpace, Inc., and Delta Airlines. Huffert holds a BS from Palm Beach Atlantic College and a Masterâs Degree in Social Work from Barry University. Her current affiliations include the Early Learning Coalition of Indian River, Martin and Okeechobee Board of Directors; Florida Association of Intergovernmental Relations Board of Directors; Martin County Affordable Housing Advisory Committee, Health Care Review Board and Economic Development Committee; and the Leadership Martin Planning Committee. Huffert also was honored with the 2005 Distinguished Service Award from the Florida Coalition for Children.

Vero Beach Little League Croom Dodgers Take On
Senior Resource Association âCodgersâ
Vero Beach, FL., April 2, 2010 â Rebecca Clyde says âBring it on Codgers.â The only female player of the Croom Dodger little league team, the girl is ready to show the seniors that eight-year-olds know baseball. The Croom Dodger little league team will take on the Senior Resource Association (SRA) Codgers at Dodgertown, Holman Stadium, Saturday, April 24 at 4pm. Sponsored and organized by Croom Construction Company, proceeds from the game will benefit SRAâs programs.
âNot only is Rebecca our only girl player on the team, she is one of our pitchers, in addition to playing the infield,â says Dodger coach Charles Croom. âRebecca and the entire team are psyched up to play some ball against the seniors. The Codgers have no idea who they are up against.â
The Croom Dodgers range in age from eight to 11 years old. The Codgers, made up of some of Veroâs most notable businessmen, range in age from 45 to 70 years old and will be coached by Bobby McCarthy of Bobbyâs Restaurant and managed by Steve Mulvey of Quail Valley River Club. Kirk Koehler will umpire the game, while announcer Joe Sanchez takes the announcerâs chair.

VERO BEACH, FL., March 25, 2010 â Siesta now, because it is almost Salsa Time. Back by popular demand, Childrenâs Home Society will host itsâ second annual TUMBA LA CASA (translation: Bring Down The House) at Rock City Gardens, 7:00 pm, Saturday, April 24, 2010.
Featuring Guatemalaâs number one rock band, âEl Tambor de la Tribu,â this event promises to be a lively, salsa-dancing, margarita-drinking evening in an outdoor garden setting at Rock City Gardens, located on US 1 in Wabasso. The sounds of El Tambor de la Tribu merge different rhythms of Latin music with rock, reggae, soul and ska, achieving a lively, yet sentimental Latin pop rock mix. Their first album earned them Best New Artist, Best Pop Band, Best Song and Best Album in 2005 and 2006 in Guatemala.
âThis is such a fun, upbeat, festive event in support of CHS,â says Marta Schneider, Chairwoman of the Indian River division of Childrenâs Home Society. âAnd El Tambor de la Tribu promises to be a big hit with all ages. I know first-hand, as they played at my daughterâs wedding in Guatemala.â
Latin America hors dâoeuvres and food stations will be provided, along with a selection of beer from Guatemalaâs brewery - CervecerĂa Centro Americana. The festive, upbeat evening will include fun, photos, games, and a special version of âPick Your Pinata.â
Hors dâoeuvres, beer, wine, and a flavored margarita bar are included in the $60 per person or $100 for two ticket price. Sponsored and organized by Croom Construction Company, proceeds from the event will benefit SRAâs programs.
The Croom Dodgers range in age from eight to 11 and are coached by Charles Croom. The Codgers, made up of some of Vero Beachâs most notable business people, will be coached by Bobby McCarthy of Bobbyâs restaurant, and managed by Steve Mulvey of Quail Valley River Club.
