Senior Resource Association (SRA) will begin offering new programs and services to the public at the new Schumann Hall Senior Center, beginning June 7, 2010. Senior programs never ceased during construction of Schumann Hall, as most programs were relocated to Leisure Square Fitness Center and St. Francis Manor, but the new facility will allow for expanded programming. Schumann Hall is located at 686 14th Street in Vero Beach.
âThe newly-remodeled Schumann Hall allows us to offer new programs and services to Indian River County seniors,â says Karen Deigl, SRA President and CEO. âWe have focused our new programming around social, recreational, health and wellness, and arts and cultural offerings for our seniors.â
During the week of June 7-11, all new and ongoing classes and programs at Schumann Hall will be offered free to the public. New programs will be introduced during the reopening celebration week including Wii tournaments, group piano lessons, ballroom dance classes, Qigong, and yoga. Door prizes will be given away daily throughout the week. Special events for the week include a free pancake breakfast at 9am on June 9 sponsored by The Isles of Vero, Qigong instruction, and a free Hawaiian luau party at 2:30pm on June 11. Dance music will be provided by The Senior Center Band and prizes will be awarded for the best outfit and best hula hooper. Special events require advance reservations by calling Kerry Bradow at 772.469.2062.
The new Interactive Resource Center at Schumann Hall, sponsored by the Minotty Family Foundation, enables SRA to offer expanded programs in the future including computer instruction. Other programs planned for the future include brain fitness; matter of balance classes; drawing classes; and health and wellness presentations; as well as an onsite SHINE representative to help with Medicare issues.
The new Schumann Hall is available as a rental venue to the public to host such events as weddings, parties, group meetings and more. For more information about Schumann Hall Senior Center activities and rentals, please call Kerry Bradow at 772.469.2062.

Senior Resource Association’s Living Legends Event Honors Robert Harris

Robert Harris honored with Living Legend Award
By Mary Schenkel - Feb. 16, 2010
VERO BEACH â Friends and colleagues gathered to honor Robert Harris, Managing Director of Harris, Cotherman, Jones, Price & Associates, who was presented with the Senior Resource Association Living Legend Award, at the second annual Legends Among Us reception at Quail Valley River Club. Harris was chosen as the award recipient because of his public achievements, including as Chair of the American Association of Certified Public Accountants, his professionalism and his invaluable contributions to the community through his support of non-profit organizations.
With his renowned oratory flair, John Moore quipped that he was still trying to figure out how Harris had become a âsenior,â but also spoke of movingly about a lasting friendship that has transcended time, noting that what makes a legend is the way a person cares for his family and community and leads others in his profession.
Moore introduced as the award presenter, former Florida Governor and U.S. Senator Bob Graham. Earlier in the day Graham had addressed a group at the Vero Beach Book Center about his new book, America, The Ownerâs Manual: Making Government Work for You.
Graham first met Harris in 1977 when Graham was beginning his Democratic gubernatorial campaign and Harris was chairman of the Indian River Republican Committee. Despite political differences, a friendship blossomed over the years and Graham complimented Harrisâs outstanding service to his profession and his high standard of public ethics.
Funds raised by the event will help fund Senior Resource Association projects such as Meals on Wheels, Adult Day Care, Case Management, Information and Referral, and Community Coach.
